The document never leaves your browser. Compatible with attorney-client privilege and GDPR — no need to upload client material to any cloud service.

Exhibits, process documents and bank statements often need to be redacted before they go to opposing counsel, the court or insurers. Krymp does the redaction in your own browser. On PDF export every page is rasterised — the hidden text is no longer in the file and cannot be selected or copied out.

Typical use cases

  • Party privilege in process material

Black out names, ID numbers and addresses in PDFs before filing.

  • Word drafts to clients

Redact sensitive terms in DOCX before a draft goes to a client or opposing counsel.

  • Bank statements

Hide account numbers, balances and transactions outside the claim.

  • Medical exhibits

Mask patient data in record copies before they become exhibits.

How to redact, step by step

  1. 1Upload PDF or DOCX. Drop the document into your browser — nothing leaves your device.
  2. 2Suggest sensitive. Click 'Suggest sensitive' to auto-detect ID numbers, emails, phones and IBANs.
  3. 3Adjust selections. Add custom boxes or terms for names and anything regex can't catch.
  4. 4Export safely. PDFs are rasterised on export; DOCX text is replaced with ████.

Common questions from lawyers

Is the redaction irreversible in the exported PDF?
Yes. Every page is rasterised on export — the page becomes an image with your black boxes burned in. The hidden text is no longer in the file and cannot be selected, copied or extracted.
What happens to a .docx file?
We open the document, replace all matches with ████ directly in the text, and save a new file. The original text is not present in the export.
Compatible with attorney-client privilege?
Yes. The document is processed only locally in your browser. No upload, no cloud storage, no third party sees the material.
Does it satisfy GDPR Art. 32?
The rasterised export is an effective pseudonymisation. Combine with EXIF removal via /metadata if the document contains images.
Can I use it for special-category personal data (Art. 9)?
Since the document never leaves your device, there is no transfer to a third party. As controller you decide whether local processing fits your DPIA.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Krymp is free and requires no signup — easy to standardise across the firm.
