Mask Image for Lawyers
Krymp Mask Image is a web tool to redact privileged information from evidence images, bank statements, medical records and process documents. The image is processed locally in the browser and never leaves your device — compatible with attorney-client privilege and GDPR Art. 32.
The image never leaves your browser. Compatible with attorney-client privilege and GDPR — no need to upload client material to any cloud service.
Client material shouldn't end up in a cloud service. At the same time, exhibits, screenshots and photographed documents often need to be redacted before they go to opposing counsel, the court or insurers. Krymp does the masking in your own browser — no external party sees the image, and you can document that the file never left the firm's machine.
Typical use cases
- Privilege in evidence images
Black out names, ID numbers and addresses in screenshots before filing.
- Bank statements
Hide account numbers, balances and transactions outside the claim.
- Medical exhibits
Mask patient data in record screenshots before they become exhibits.
- Family law
Hide children's faces and school names in case materials.
How to mask, step by step
- 1Upload the image. Drop it in the browser — nothing is sent anywhere.
- 2Mark sensitive areas. Drag boxes over names, faces, ID numbers or anything that must be hidden.
- 3Choose the mask type. Black box for evidentiary value, pixelate/blur for legible context, white for receipts.
- 4Export. Download as PNG or JPG, ready to share.
Common questions from lawyers
- Is the tool compatible with attorney-client privilege?
- Yes. Krymp processes the image only locally in your browser — no upload, no cloud storage. Client material is never shared with third parties during the masking step.
- Does the masking satisfy GDPR Art. 32 (security)?
- Black-box masking overwrites the original pixels in the export, an effective pseudonymization. For maximum safety, combine black box with EXIF removal via /metadata.
- Can opposing counsel 'unblur' my masking?
- Black box is irreversible. Blur and pixelate can in rare lab conditions be partially reconstructed — use black box for identifying data (ID numbers, names, faces).
- Can I use Krymp for special-category personal data (Art. 9)?
- Since the image never leaves your device, there's no third-party transfer. As controller you decide whether local processing fits your DPIA.
- Is there an audit trail?
- The tool is client-side and does not log individual images. To document the process, take before/after screenshots and store them with the case file.
- How do I mask many pages at once?
- Load all images, draw a shared selection rectangle and pick 'Apply selections to all'. Export as ZIP.
- Does it work on Mac, Windows and iPad?
- Yes. Krymp runs in any modern browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge — on desktop, tablet or phone.
- What does it cost?
- Nothing. Krymp is free and requires no signup, which makes it easy to standardize across the firm.
